About John Dalton: Goetschius was to go home on leave when he volunteered to replace another bombardier who was too sick. He was 22 when his plane went down over Mannheim, Germany. "He always told me that 90 persent of the bombardiers don't come back" recalled his sister Dorothy Goetschius Frey.
