About August (Semrau): August( Semrau) Block was born on January 15, 1911 in Lipno, Russia. He came to the United States n 1921, at the age of 10.

He changed his name from Semrau, his fathers's name to Block, his mother's maiden name.

After marrying Emma Tiase of Fairview, NJ around 1932, they bought a house in Bergenfield.

August was fascinated with airplanes and flying, often saving up for a few minutes of flying time out of Teterboro Airport. Joining the marines was one way to learn to fly and did it often, yet also served his country. He spent time in Camden, SC in aviation classes...Ultimately he was stationed at the Naval Air Base in Pensacola, Florida. He became a Aviation Instructor.

August block plane crashed on July 18, 1944. August Block died leaving a son, Robert age 9 and a daughter, Kathryn, age 9 months.
