About Robert E.: Bobby Meyns, who won 20 straight games for Dumont High School was a shoo-in. Dubbed the "Bob Feller" of Bergenfield after the Cleveland Indians ace, Meyns threw a wicked curve ball that won him a tryout with the New York Giants in 1940. His father, Henry carefully kept a scrapbook of his son's exploits on the diamond. Henry Meyns had just finished reading a cheerful letter from his son, saying "expect to be home in August, I hope...hope", when he got a telegram saying the 22 year old's plane had crashed in training off the coast of Florida on July 18,
1943.
